What are pre-17th century skills, arts, combat + culture?
There are many, many examples- but here is a list with a few of them!
Do I need a membership?
No. You are welcome at meetings, and most events or actvities regardless of membership status.
Why buy a membership?
Paid events/activities offer a $10 discount to members, and membership is required to hold an office. Above all else, it supports the organization. Memberships can be purchased here. The Signorotti Membership Assistance Fund also allows low-income individuals to request a covered membership, which can be found here.
How do I get involved?
Contact our Chatelaine and come to a business meeting. We're happy to have you!
What is a Shire/Barony/Kingdom?
A shire is your local branch of the SCA. For example, Windwyrm is local to Lethbridge, AB. If you are from out of town- look up your local branch here.
A barony is a larger local branch within the SCA. They have special ceremonial representatives of Baron/Baroness, and the ability to create + administer awards. Maybe one day Windwyrm could become a barony!A kingdom is a large collection of shires and baronies, spanning provinces/states. Kingdoms operate as a much larger scale and have intricacies best explained by a kingdom officer. Windwyrm is contained within the kingdom of Avacal. What are the offices?
Seneschal – the officer serving as “president” of a local group or kingdom. Acts as the group administrator and legal representative of the SCA.
Minister of Arts and Science - the officer in charge of hosting, tracking, and reporting arts + science activities within the local group.Chatelaine – the officer in charge of helping new members learn about the SCA.Exchequer – the officer serving as treasurer for a group or kingdom.Webminister - the officer in charge of creating and maintaining group website. What is a persona?
The medieval identitiy you assume within the SCA. You may choose a name, time period, and even create character that feels right to you. The amount of thought you dedicate to your persona is entirely up to you- with the only stipulations being that you may not claim to be an actual person who lived, and you may not claim any rank or titles which you did not earn in the SCA.
